I’m Lindsay McVay, a communications strategist, graphic designer, and storyteller based in New York City. Most recently I served as Visual Communications and Content Strategist for Planned Parenthood Global, the former international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

I see writing and design as inseparable tools that together tell richer, more compelling stories. I work at the intersection of both, using them to create layered content that builds visibility, brand trust, and impact across platforms.

VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTENT STRATEGIST

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (Global) | New York, New York | May 2024 – June 2025

  • Designed and produced digital and print assets, including social media graphics for major global observances like International Women’s Day and International Youth Day, internal slide decks for executive briefings, and branded web content, ensuring consistency and clarity across platforms.

  • Led creative direction and visual strategy for rapid-response content tied to breaking policy news, including the U.S. administration’s defunding of USAID and global family planning programs, aligning messaging with organizational advocacy goals.

  • Managed and executed cross-platform content planning across Instagram, X/Twitter, Threads, and LinkedIn, coordinating closely with internal teams to maintain a cohesive digital presence and responsive editorial calendar.

  • Collaborated with external creatives to translate convenings into accessible digital storytelling, including a live graphic recording for “Youth Speak Up,” a private forum that brought together youth leaders to address challenges in the global sexual and reproductive health and rights movement.

  • Led global communications efforts to strengthen messaging alignment across digital platforms and brand visibility, including co- writing and assisting in the creative direction of Planned Parenthood Global’s 2024 Impact Brief and the global team’s feature in Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s 2024 Annual Report.

  • Oversaw the development of editorial products to elevate organizational milestones and history, including serving as point of contact for copyediting and translation during the creation of Planned Parenthood Global’s 50th Anniversary timeline.

  • Collaborated cross-functionally with clinicians, policy experts, and regional directors to shape messaging for global observances and campaigns like International Abortion Day and legal “wins,” ensuring content reflected cultural context, language nuance, and local perspectives.

  • Assisted with content development and partner coordination for global convenings, including Women Deliver 2023 and the 2024 Youth Summit in Uganda, to amplify youth and partner voices across planning, engagement, and post-event communications.

  • Coordinated with the Board of Directors, Governance Board, and key stakeholders to ensure the organization’s role as the lead agency overseeing 40 partners within the FL-510 Continuum of Care, supporting detailed communication and successful delivery of training, programs, and initiatives.

  • Managed content creation across multiple channels, overseeing the development, design, editing, and post-production of materials including photos, videos, social media posts, flyers, infographics, and annual reports.

  • Assisted the Chief Community Engagement Officer through management of the development calendar, drafting written materials and reports, and reviewing grant applications for accuracy and alignment.

I managed end-to-end production of internal newsletters and external event invitations, ensuring timely, engaging, and brand-aligned communications across Planned Parenthood Global. This included content planning, copywriting, layout coordination, and working closely with translators and designers to reach multilingual audiences. These newsletters played a key role in strengthening internal visibility and cross-regional collaboration.
